"To My 10-Year-Old Self" is the amends I owed to the little girl whose unwarranted self-loathing began at 10 years old. I began to dim the light that decades later became dark. This piece is the bright, loud, expressive kid I really was and didn't show the world. It is an apology, a what if, and a reminder. I was lovable, worthy, valuable, and ok then and still am now. And now I get to let her out and atone for not giving her what she needed. Self-loathing as a young girl is devastatingly common, so I hope this piece makes one woman out there feel like she's not alone, and one girl out there feel worthy and lovable.
